Redwood Family
“Jo-Jo” began attending the People’s Care Las Vegas Day Program, a member of Redwood Family Care Network, after graduating from high school in Las Vegas, NV. From the very beginning, Jo-Jo’s support team focused on getting to know her strengths, preferences, and the best ways to support her as she transitioned into day program services.
The Program Manager and Staff worked closely with Jo-Jo, her family, her Service Coordinator, and her home team to ensure she received thoughtful, consistent support across all areas of her life. This collaborative approach helped create a supportive environment where Jo-Jo could build trust with staff, become comfortable in the program, and begin exploring new opportunities for growth.
Over time, Jo-Jo has made inspiring progress in her independence and daily participation. With encouragement from her support team, she has developed greater mobility and confidence in moving throughout the program. She now walks independently with minimal support from her walker and navigates the program space with increasing stability.
Jo-Jo has also become more socially engaged with those around her. She enjoys spending time with her peers and participating in activities throughout the day. One of her favorite moments is joining others during music and movement activities—often dancing alongside her peers, bringing smiles to those around her.
Her communication skills have also continued to flourish. Jo-Jo is now able to recognize and greet staff members and peers by name and demonstrates growing confidence in expressing her needs. She independently notifies staff when she needs assistance, showing increased self-advocacy and comfort communicating with those around her.
As Jo-Jo has grown more familiar with her environment and the people who support her, she has become more engaged in daily activities and routines within the program. The strong partnerships between her support team, family, and service providers have played an important role in helping her build these skills and experiences.
Jo-Jo’s personality has become bright and determined. Watching her confidence grow and seeing her participate more actively each day has inspired both her staff and her peers.
Across Redwood Family Care Network, Jo-Jo’s story reflects the impact of person-centered support, collaboration, and patience. Her journey shows how a supportive community can help individuals build confidence, strengthen relationships, and continue growing toward greater independence.
